Big Four firms compete to hire brightest talent
"One of the key things that people attending the expo can learn is the diversity and scope of services offered by a Big Four firm such as Deloitte," says Derek Lai, FCPA (Aust.), Deloitte Asia leader for reorganisation services and deputy national leader for financial advisory services.
Lai says Deloitte human resources professionals and senior practitioners from different business areas interact with potential job candidates at the expo to provide insights into their respective areas of expertise.
Before applying to join Deloitte, it is critical that job-seekers should form a strong idea of what they would like to do, he says.
Lai says job-seekers joining a firm such as Deloitte, with the right skills and ambition, are able to move between departments and professional service sectors. They also have a wide range of exposure to multinational clients and a growing client portfolio on the mainland.
"While we try to never miss the opportunity to attract good people, the expo is not a replacement for a formal interview, but it does allow you to get a feel for the sort of people that might do well in the firm. It is an opportunity to advise on the best way to submit a CV and highlight the skills we are looking for," Lai says.
After submitting their résumés, candidates are invited for an aptitude test, group presentations and a formal interview with a Deloitte partner.
