Candidates asked to be themselves
Always on the lookout for graduates and experienced professionals with diverse backgrounds and experiences, the CPA Australia Career Expo provides Big Four firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) with an excellent opportunity to interact with talent.
"By taking part in the expo, we are able to reach a wider spectrum of people," says Nora Wu, human capital leader, PwC Asia Pacific. "There are, of course, other benefits. In a formal job interview, candidates usually feel as if they should say what the potential employer wants to hear rather than saying what they really feel."
Wu adds that PwC welcomes any questions that the candidate might ask, to assess whether the firm meshes well with their career goals and personal ambitions.
Wu believes that the expo is a good conduit for the company to explain the uniqueness of the PwC experience, which incorporates cross-generation and cross-lines of service relationship-building, based on sharing and collaboration.
PwC also has the opportunity to tell attendees about its message and values, as well as what it seeks.
Wu says the expo provides the firm with the opportunity to dispel the widely held belief that applicants need an accounting degree to join the company.
PwC believes recruiting a diverse staff leads to a culture that provides benefits for employees, clients and the community.
In 2011, about 17,600 graduates joined PwC globally, making it one of the largest graduate recruiters.
