HKICPA’s annual Career Forum is a golden opportunity for students to learn more about accounting

As one of the HKICPA’s flagship events, the annual Career Forum provides participants with a prime opportunity to learn more about joining the accounting profession and the diverse career paths available to them via a line-up of prominent speakers, workshops and exhibitions.

Featuring a line-up of prominent speakers, workshops and exhibitions, the event will cover Career Forum is a comprehensive event that allows attendees to find out the latest employment and recruitment trends, career path choices advice and some of the lesser-known details about the accounting profession. 

“It is a golden opportunity to meet CPAs, recruitment professionals and business executives to get the latest updates on a variety of the profession’s career options,” says Mabel Chan, chairwoman of the forum advisory panel and vice-president of the HKICPA.

Chan believes those attending the forum will discover that accountancy is a career that offers secure employment, plenty of variety and people contact and good opportunities to work regionally and globally. They will also discover how accounting is a stepping stone to top management and leadership positions. “The future career prospects for people with the CPA qualification are expanding all the time,” she says, adding that Hong Kong CPAs work in all areas of business, the government and public and non-profit sectors. 

“The forum is the ideal event to ask lots of questions and find out about things that might interest you.” 

Attendees will also have a chance to be interviewed by HR experts and could win a place in the Shadow CPA programme, or an internship at a CPA firm. Because of the previous success of these initiatives, the number of places has been expanded. 

“The forum provides students with awareness of the countless opportunities in accounting, assists them with advice on the interview and recruiting process, and helps them choose a career path that is right for them.” Chan says. 

The Career Forum’s panel discussion entitled “CPAs – the DNA of Leaders” will feature a guest panel of speakers sharing their experiences on “what comes next”. In addition to discovering the options available to them at an early stage in their career as an accountant, There will be experience sharing on “what comes next” by guest speakers during the "CPAs - the DNA of Leaders" panel discussion.

“We have added a few new elements this year that will allow young people to get a feel for the next step up from their short-term to mid-term career development,” Chan says. 

Other highlights include the screening of videos filmed by students from various universities in Hong Kong and posted on YouTube that show them preparing to join the accountancy sector. Also, recruitment and management consultants will be there to offer advice about CVs and job applications; and networking with experienced CPAs from different industries during lunch.
