Hotel seek quality staff to meet demand
As big and small hotels continue to open in Hong Kong, more new blood will be needed to sustain and support the growth of the industry.
According to the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the number of hotel rooms is expected to increase by about 5.6 per cent this year, and 10 per cent more tourists will be staying overnight in Hong Kong.
Most hotels provide a range of staff training in order to maintain the quality of their services. There is also a clear career path for employees with a good performance record and solid experience.
In the past, employers would consider hiring someone as long as they performed well in their role. However, companies in hospitality are increasingly looking for candidates with all-round skills.
A passion for hospitality is one of the most important attributes. Guests coming to Hong Kong look for quality services in a luxury hotel, which is why hotels are scouting for staff who are friendly, helpful, proactive, dedicated, and willing to go the extra mile when serving customers. Job candidates should also have good communication skills and be effective team players.
