OZO seeks seasoned staff as it prepares for HK debut
A young and dynamic hotel brand is making its debut in Hong Kong for which it will be hiring management-grade staff, for its opening in October 2012. Bangkok-based hotel management company Onyx Hospitality Group (OHG) will take over The Wesley hotel in February 2012. The Wan Chai property will undergo thorough renovations, before reopening as the OZO Wesley Hong Kong. The hotel will be the first of the group's brand of OZO hotels.
The management of the hotel plans to have its department heads in place by February or March 2012. It will fill other positions through recruitment days in late May or early June.
"There is a segment of travellers who tend to spend most of their time either sightseeing, shopping or at meetings," says Suresh Menon, OHG executive vice-president and chief people officer. "A hotel for them is a room to come back to for rest and a good night's sleep. OZO caters to this category of clientele."
He adds that the future director of sales will be a person who has experienced launching a hotel, and who has a minimum of five years in a senior role. "This position requires someone who has handled the corporate market segment, the mid-range travel segment and young travellers," says Menon. "Ideally, the person would be local or someone who has worked in Hong Kong for a number of years."
The group is also seeking a sales manager, whose experience will complement that of the director of sales. Menon says both candidates should be driven, entrepreneurial, passionate and creative.
The hotel is also seeking a human resources (HR) manager and an HR co-ordinator. The HR manager will report to the general manager of the hotel, and indirectly to Bangkok. The hotel will likewise hire department heads for finance, IT, purchasing and engineering, as well as an executive secretary.
OHG plans to open more OZO hotels, which will allow staff the chance to be transferred and participate in other openings.
