HKIHRM HR Excellence Awards honour those who truly stand out

In its third year, the annual HR Excellence Awards, organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management (HKIHRM), will once again recognise organisations and individuals who demonstrate outstanding people strategies and human resources (HR) practices that have led them to business success.

A total of 15 awards will be given to outstanding applicants. Among them, 12 are organisational awards while three will acknowledge individual excellence. In addition, a grand award of the year will be chosen by the judging panel from the awardees in the strategic HR and HR practices categories.

"All awards will be judged through a stringent process and we are very honoured to have Dr Leong Che-hung, council chairman of The University of Hong Kong, chair the judging panel," said David Li, vice-president of HKIHRM, during the launch ceremony on March 26.

The judging panel will consist of several HR luminaries, including Dr Kim Mak, executive director of corporate affairs at the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), Albert Chan, head of commercial banking at HSBC, Professor Leung Kwok, chair professor of the department of management at City University of Hong Kong, and HKIHRM president Francis Mok and vice-president David Li.

Interested parties are required to submit their application form before the registration deadline on May 9. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to give a presentation by early July in front of the organising committee chaired by Li.

Finalists will be asked to submit a detailed report and present their cases to the judging panel, who will then decide the winners.

The HR Excellence Awards are designed to enhance and promote professionalism in HR practices. The criteria of each award are derived from the HR Professional Standards Model - a framework for HR professionalism developed by HKIHRM in 2010.

At the launch ceremony, 10 winners of the 2013 awards had the opportunity to present their winning cases and demonstrate the strategies and practices that have enhanced their business performance. They included HKJC, CLP Power Hong Kong, Zurich Insurance (Hong Kong), DBS Bank (Hong Kong), The Langham Hong Kong, Langham Place Mongkok, Belle International Holdings, Vision Skill Consulting, Magic Clean Environmental Services and Sanfield (Management).
