Search on for super retailers
Traditionally located in downtown areas such as Causeway Bay, Central and Tsim Sha Tsui, city'super plans to expand to areas where middle-class families are rapidly growing.
"We plan to open a Log-On in Tai Po this year and another one in Tseung Kwan O by mid-2012," says Eliza Lau, the group's vice-president for corporate support services. "These two areas have long been viewed as remote places but in recent years, there has been an increasing number of middle-class families moving there. Our outlets in Tsing Yi have proved successful and we hope to build on this success with two more stores."
The two upcoming Log-On stores will need 47 frontline staff - 40 sales assistants, five supervisors and two store managers. For its existing stores, city'super is looking for five supervisors and 30 sales assistants.
"We are looking for people with an outgoing personality and a passion for retail," says Lau. "At city'super, we sell the most trendy products and we expect our staff to be enthusiastic in learning about our new products and willing to share their knowledge while serving customers. Our target customers are young people with an open mind so we would like to keep our sales staff young. Post-'80s are most welcome to apply. Sales experience is an advantage but we prefer staff who embrace the brand."
As a growing company, city'super offers excellent opportunities for career development, she adds. "Our employees have the chance to gain exposure. Our business is in food and lifestyle products and staff are welcome to try different things. We have a dynamic business and there are always new products and new ideas to enrich our staff," Lau says.
The local retail industry has been on an uptrend since 2006 and there is a keen demand for manpower, notes Lau, adding that job hunters are drawn to city'super because it provides outstanding training. "We do not hesitate to invest in training. For example, we support our wine sales staff to receive training towards becoming professional sommeliers. We encourage our employees to participate in various competitions. We are a well-established company with 1,500 employees. This attracts job seekers."
Marica Lee, deputy store manager for city'super IFC store, has been with the company for a year and a half. After working with airlines and in public relations, she wanted to give the retail industry a try. "I love it here because there are many opportunities for development," she says. "For hard-working staff, sky is the limit."
