Career Advice Job Market Trend Report

Skill at a premium

The demand for experienced, astute internal auditors has fuelled an increase in salary levels. Several factors have contributed to this demand, including a drive to identify process inefficiencies and control weaknesses. Internal auditors who can collaborate with business partners and be aligned with the organisation's strategic needs are particularly in demand, as are those who are willing to travel extensively.

For financial services organisations, the high demand has been a result of increasing regulatory requirements and a reflection of the growth of business, particularly in the insurance sector. Experienced internal auditors trained by Big Four accountancy firms with in-house auditing experience are highly sought-after. Candidates with strong technical knowledge have high negotiation power and can command a premium.
