Social media jobs are hot
In the first half of 2011, we saw an increase in hiring activity in the information technology and telecommunication (IT&T) sector, with most companies primarily recruiting sales professionals due to the strong economic climate.
Much of the initial hiring was from the commercial and government sectors, with the majority focusing on middle management positions. Due to the growth of social networking, many companies hire social media managers to support their sales strategy.
Candidates who are familiar with the social media environment and have a solid understanding of market trends are highly sought after. Candidates who are familiar with cloud computing will be in high demand. In exchange, companies are willing to provide more resources and training for their staff.
Organisations have been increasingly willing to invest more resources in Asia as many of their European and US businesses were downsized amid slower economic growth. We expect this trend to continue throughout 2011.
In terms of salaries, those with less experience received an average raise of 5 per cent to 10 per cent, while senior professionals received salary increments of between 20 per cent and 25 per cent when switching jobs.
