The West Kowloon Cultural District is one of the largest cultural projects in the world. Its vision is to create a vibrant cultural quarter where the local art scene can interact, develop and collaborate, and to reinforce Hong Kong’s position as an international arts and cultural metropolis.

With an upfront endowment of HK$21.6 billion, the Authority has made significant progress thus far, with the first performance facility, the Xiqu Centre, well under way.

We are seeking to appoint an Artistic Director, Performing Arts. Reporting to the Executive Director, Performing Arts, you will be accountable for:
· Overseeing the development and delivery of outstanding programmes across a variety of art forms (including xiqu, music, dance and theatre) from Hong Kong and around the world;
· Providing inspirational leadership to the artistic teams in order to uphold the highest standards of artistic endeavor expected of the WKCDA’s stakeholders and partners; and
· Delivering the WKCDA’s learning and participation mission, appealing to and engaging new and more diverse audience groups, as well as enhancing their understanding of the arts.

The ideal candidate should possess:
1. at least 15 years of relevant experience in the arts and culture sector, with 10 years at a senior executive level;
2. a recognised university degree in performing arts, arts or cultural studies, arts management, arts education or equivalent;
3. expertise in one or more aspects of performing arts, with a commitment to quality and diversity, and the ability to embrace both traditional and contemporary culture;
4. strong leadership skills with extensive experience in establishing programme strategies across art forms, facilities and strategic areas;
5. exceptional ability in driving the integration of artistic planning from commencement to implementation and operation;
6. deep knowledge of the performing arts forms that will feature in WKCD venues, and extensive networks with overseas, mainland Chinese and local performing arts groups or institutions;
7. an understanding of the Hong Kong arts scene, and good oral and communication skills in Chinese/Putonghua will be a distinct advantage.
