The Office of the Dean of Students (DST) is seeking an entrepreneurially-minded self-starter with a proven track record of effectively contributing to collaborative projects to join as a key member of its leadership team. The appointee will work closely with the Dean of Students on strategy, planning, outreach, and implementation of new campus initiatives in addition to managing existing programs.
Reporting to the Dean of Students, the appointee will play a key role in the design and implementation of multiple new campus-wide initiatives, such as the New Student Orientation and First-Year Experience programs. The appointee will serve as the principal liaison person between the DST and various stakeholders on and off campus, including the Schools, the Student Affairs Office, the student residence hall management team, various student groups and the HKUST alumni. The appointee is expected to work collaboratively with all groups; take the lead in drafting the master plan for new initiatives; provide coordinating leadership during the implementation stage; and guide the effort to assess the initial outcomes and effectiveness of new programs.
The appointee will also manage ongoing campus-wide programs, such as the HKUST Summer Institute and the President’s Cup. Apart from program management and development, the appointee will also work with the Dean of Students and DST staff on ad hoc projects as they arise and play a supervisory role in staff management.
Applicants should hold an advanced degree (master’s or doctoral) and possess substantial years of significant work experience in student affairs at major universities. Prior experience in planning and implementing initiatives and managing staff in a university setting will be extremely helpful. An outstanding command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua) is essential. Competence in local Hong Kong culture will be avery important asset. The appointee should be an adaptive team player who is at ease with multi-tasking; possess a good analytical mind, sound critical thinking skills, and a creative,entrepreneurial spirit; and have the ability to speak persuasively to various groups of people. A comfort with diversity and inclusion, familiarity with higher education systems and current issues in student affairs, and an interest in data-driven program assessment will be highly desirable. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. Housing benefits will also be provided where applicable. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
