Major Duties: To (a) develop, organize, conduct and evaluate training courses offered by or conducted at the Institute; (b) improve and update the training curricula and syllabi according to the latest requirements set by authorities or legislation and amendments to International Convention on Standards on Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers; (c) perform training-related administrative duties and assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Institute, including the supervision and management of resources, teaching and supporting staff, and all matters related to training and occupational safety and health aspects of the Institute; (d) plan and oversee the procurement, maintenance, installation, commissioning and utilization of plants, equipment, training facilities and consumables for training activities of the Institute; (e) assist in preparing financial estimates and staff development plan of instructing staff; (f) monitor and update the documents of the Institute’s Safety Management System and Quality Management System as required by the rules of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) set for maritime training providers; and (g) maintain and enhance networks with industries, professional bodies and government departments.

Requirements: (a) A relevant recognized higher diploma or equivalent; (b) At least 9 years’ relevant industrial experience (including experience on board ships) at supervisory level or teaching experience in recognized marine training institutions; (c) Certificate of Competency (Deck Officer / Engineer) Class 2 (or above) in Ocean-Going or River Trade; (d) Good language proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese, preferably including Putonghua; (e) Preferably a registered safety officer with marine safety and fire-fighting related working experiences and/or certificates of STCW 2010 training in first aid, fire-fighting, survival crafts and personal survival techniques; (f) Preferably with knowledge in common computer software applications; and (g) Ability to pass a trade test.

Notes:(1)Candidates without the required academic qualification stated in (a) above but possessing 16 years’ maritime work experience (including on-board experience in ocean-going or river trade) in supervisory rank or teaching experience in recognized maritime training institutions may also apply. Where applicable, these candidates may be required to have a Qualifications Framework (QF) Level 3 qualification.
(2)Candidates may be considered for the post of Senior Instructor if (i) possessing a relevant recognized higher diploma and at least 6 years’ maritime work experience (including on-board experience in ocean-going or river trade) in supervisory rank or teaching experience in recognized maritime training institutions, or (ii) without a higher diploma but possessing 12 years’ relevant work experience. Where applicable, these candidates may be required to have a Qualifications Framework (QF) Level 3 qualification.
(3)The appointee will be required to wear working gear provided by the Institute.
(4)The appointee may be required to perform duties outside normal office hours and in designated places as assigned.
