Centre for Applied English Studies
The Director will be the academic leader and administrative head with overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Centre of 53 full-time teaching staff, 8 full-time and 3 part-time Ph.D. students and 12 full-time administrative staff, from diverse cultural backgrounds. He/She will provide leadership in all aspects of the Centre’s development, academic advancement, strategic planning and curricular implementation. Information about the Centre can be obtained at http://caes.hku.hk/. Applicants should ideally currently hold a position as Professor but highly qualified Associate Professors, who fit the following criteria, will also be considered. They will have the following proven skills/experience: (i) leadership experience providing a vision for the development of a language centre and implementing that vision through consultation with senior management of a university; (ii) management experience running a sizeable language centre within a university, in particular the implementation of effective policies for the day-to-day running of the language centre; (iii) a substantial academic background in academic literacy teaching and research; (iv) excellent interpersonal skills, in particular an ability to build consensus amongst staff in decision making; and (v) excellent administrative skills, in particular management of a multi-million dollar budget. They will also have experience of Ph.D. supervision and teaching Applied Linguistics to postgraduate students. Their Ph.D. should also be in the field of Applied Linguistics.
