The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to evolve into a world class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. At present, the University has programmes in science, engineering, economic management, and humanities and social science. Its long term goal is to recruit 11,000 domestic and international students, 7,500 of whom will be undergraduate students and 3,500 Masters or PhD students.

The aim of creating the School of Humanities and Social Science is to provide foundations in humanities and social science through its teaching for students to gain insights into the past, while enabling them to critically examine contemporary issues, and explore answers for a sustainable future, so that our students can be better positioned to respond to challenges facing China and the world. In the beginning years, our School offers core courses of the University, ranging from language courses to General Education foundation and elective courses, including also IT and PE courses. Our curricula focus on developing students’ analytical abilities, critical comprehension, effective communication skills, IT literacy, as well as their physical fitness, which are essential to their further studies and lifelong learning.

Post Specification

Applicants should have (i) a Master degree or above in Physical Education or Sports Science; if major in Bachelor degree is not Physical Education or Sports Coaching, coach qualification of International Sports Association or at least 2nd grade athlete qualification of General Administration of Sports in China will be required; (ii) relevant experience in teaching and coaching at University level; and (iii) knowledge of Chinese and English.

The appointee will be responsible for (a) teaching physical education courses for undergraduates including international students (activities may include rock climbing, cross-country orienteering, international athletic dancing, archery, swimming, etc.), as well as courses in fitness and health; (b) undertaking coaching during term time and summer months; and (c) assisting in organizing sports activities and in administrative duties related to physical education.

The appointee is expected to commence work around May 2017.

Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK(SZ) and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labour laws applicable in the PRC.
