5-star hotel ready to check in staff with the right 'FITS'

20 vacancies in 15 positions, including assistant manager
Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Sha Tin

The only five-star hotel in the New Territories, Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Sha Tin, offers its employees great career development opportunities and competitive benefits.

A five-day work week, 12 free room-nights every year in any Hyatt hotel, excellent staff canteen, and dormitory for employees who work on shifts are just part of the offerings. Then there is the opportunity for career development in the three Hyatt hotels in Hong Kong, and across its extensive global network of sister properties.

To support its operations and expansion, the hotel has announced 20 vacancies in 15 positions.

"We are always hiring for our food and beverage department. The industry is fighting for people as more and more restaurants open. We are also expanding the front office to accommodate all our guests' requirements, and are looking for an assistant manager," says Kyle Lo, Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Sha Tin's personnel manager.

The hotel is also looking for a corporate leadership trainee for a one-year programme with exposure to different departments and a potential appointment as assistant manager.

The hotel's hiring philosophy requires good "FITS" - people who are flexible, have initiative, are good at team work and show sincerity.

"They have to serve our guests in a way that exceeds their expectations and think of new ways to serve our customers better," Lo says.

Candidates must also have good communication and interpersonal skills, not only in communicating with guests but also with colleagues. The hotel has five requirements related to interpersonal relations - mutual respect, honesty and integrity, humility, to have fun while working and also with colleagues, and creativity.

New hires get a two-day orientation and service skills training. There is also a "Service Excellence" training series for existing employees, and leadership induction for those promoted to higher positions.

Pre-opening secondments or promotion to newly opened hotels are mostly available on mainland China, because the chain is opening several hotels there in the near future.

Hyatt Regency holds many activities for its staff that help to develop a cohesive and co-operative team, Lo adds.
