Dilys Chau Suet-fung joined Ernst & Young as a staff accountant after graduation and was quickly promoted to partner. She is also active in community service, including being appointed as a council member of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) - her alma mater. She talks to Wong Yat-hei

What's your academic background?

I have a bachelor's in accountancy from CityU. After working for some years, I finished an executive master's in business administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

How do you start your day?

I usually start by praying and reading the bible. I then have a big breakfast and read the newspaper.

What does your job entail?

I provide assurance services to clients, helping with their IPOs and [mergers and acquisitions]. My clients include multinationals, mainland and Hong Kong-listed companies, and private clients across various industries. I also conduct recruitment talks and interview university graduates, and participate in marketing programmes.

What are the major challenges you've encountered so far?

For a partner of a global firm and a mother of a 13-year-old son, time management is a major challenge. I have to maintain work-life balance.

What have you learned about your career? What are your plans?

On top of continuous career advancement at Ernst & Young, I will continue to work for the community.

Any advice for those who are planning to enter your industry?

Good communication and language skills make you stand out. Be proactive and anticipate what is required of you.
