Citibank seeks 100 new frontline staff

Published on Thursday, 29 Apr 2010

As part of a plan to double its network to 50 branches, Citibank Hong Kong intends to hire more than 100 frontline employees.

"We are looking for counter service officers, banking officers, personal bankers and relationship managers," says country human resources director Maisie Lam. "We want to provide all kinds of services. That's why we need more staff."

Candidates should be willing to learn and good at communicating with clients. Applicants for relationship-manager posts should have relevant experience, while fresh graduates and people without a background in finance may be suitable for other positions.

"Candidates should have a good service attitude. They need to be patient and good listeners when dealing with customers," Lam says.

All new hires will take a two-month training programme on the banking system, compliance, products and service techniques. They will also have to achieve a pass mark of 80 per cent in several internal examinations.

"Our training curriculum is very well organised and we have set high standards," Lam says. "We want to make sure our colleagues are knowledgeable before taking up their positions."

The bank also offers a clearly structured career path. Customer service officers and banking officers, for example, can choose a field of special interest - perhaps loans or insurance.

Personal bankers and relationship managers can apply to join the six-month development programme for branch managers.
