Emphasis on the practical

The Business Alumna

With a PolyU bachelor's of business administration (BBA) in financial services to hang on her wall, Chloe Tang Man-ting could have chosen any number of career directions. But after due consideration, she opted for a role in audit and assurance services with Big Four firm PwC.

"What I value most is having so many opportunities to work with big clients, including global fund houses and banks," says Tang, who completed her three-year honours degree in mid-2010. "My team provides professional audit opinions and I am really enjoying the career journey and the chance to grow."

Tang is quick to add that her course provided a great foundation for the transition to full-time work. PolyU's approach to creating well-rounded individuals and encouraging internships has also stood her in good stead. It ensures that she has practical experience of areas other than finance.

For example, a scholarship with the Student Outbound Exchange Programme took her to France in her second year, where she studied master's level courses at the Euromed Marseille Management School. And in summer 2009, she spent time in Beijing as part of the "New Youth, New World" initiative.

"Then, in my third year, I interned with a charitable foundation, the Mental Health Association of Hong Kong," she says.

"The PolyU Faculty of Business equipped me to succeed," she adds.
