Managerial and operational staff
The Cafe Deco Group

Working for a large company allows employees to have lateral exposure and keep learning new skills. Opportunities for career advancement are also higher.

The Cafe Deco Group is one of the largest food and beverage companies in Hong Kong and is still growing fast. Thanks to the sheer variety of its outlets, it can offer this kind of career development.

"We provide our staff with the opportunity to work in various outlets - be it a restaurant, a bar or a kiosk - there is always room to grow. Employees can gain experience through working with different people in different environments. Moreover, they will have the opportunity to manage an outlet and [independently] handle business intricacies," says Linda Kwan, marketing and public relations director, Cafe Deco Group.

In 2011, Cafe Deco merged with Igor's Group and now has more than 45 bars and restaurants in Hong Kong, as well as in Macau, Sydney and Shanghai, and is continuously looking to add new restaurants. The group often has vacancies at both managerial and operational levels.

"Currently, we have 750 employees. We are recruiting for a few managerial positions at different levels. Since we are expanding fast, we are continuously looking for operations staff," Kwan says.

The company's mission is a commitment to excellence and providing an outstanding quality of food, service and entertainment concept to enrich the lives of guests and staff alike, and provide a superior guest experience.

"Candidates should have a high sense of responsibility," Kwan says. "They should be proactive, energetic and have a can-do attitude."

Applicants for management positions should have relevant F&B experience. Less experienced staff may be offered junior positions and can gradually rise through the ranks. The ability to speak Cantonese and English is a must. Putonghua is an advantage.

New hires will go through an induction offered by the individual outlet's restaurant managers, bar managers and a marketing assistant.

They will then join the training offered to existing staff, including an introduction to the company handbook that covers all procedures for operational staff. They will be trained in food hygiene and knowledge, including the various ingredients of the restaurants' highlighted dishes.

Staff also receive training in wine knowledge, so that they can suggest the right type of wine to accompany particular dishes.

With its great team spirit, Cafe Deco likes to employ fun people. "Join us and you will be able to see the fun part of the Cafe Deco Group. This is something we can't describe," Kwan says.

The company manages a pool tournament and other sport activities to encourage friendly competition. The group also organises a staff party every two years to thank them for their hard work and contribution.
