"Live communication" services is an exciting field to work in. Covering exhibition design and build, as well as event management, related jobs are for those who have an international mindset, a wide scope of interest and a penchant for travel.
"This is a very interesting field. You are in touch with so many different industries, learn a lot in a short time and grow up quickly," says Daphne Choi, Uniplan managing director.
Choi says that Uniplan has a long list of positions to fill. "We are looking for good people. We have a very aggressive hiring policy and would like to keep ourselves at the top of the market," she says.
The company organises events in Hong Kong and overseas, including places such as Mongolia, Las Vegas, Europe and Dubai, for a pool of international clients.
It also co-operates closely with its China offices. Most positions require travel, especially for account and project managers. People in creative positions are not required to travel as much.
Staff are a mixture of full-time and freelance employees, with a variety of international backgrounds. English is a basic requirement while any additional language is a bonus. Communication is a key skill in any position.
"To position a company as 'live communication' is very unique. Exhibitions, gala dinners, product launches and conferences all have to get the message through to clients, and their basis is always a communication plan," says Choi, who has been with the company for 18 years.
"In-house staff should all know how to put together a communication plan for our clients," she adds.
An entrepreneurial company with head offices in Köln, Germany, Uniplan set up its Hong Kong office in 1985. It later expanded into greater China.
It has an open-minded culture and wants to hire people who are highly professional, can challenge the status quo, and are able to offer and accept comments and suggestions.
"We are made up of a group of creative, energetic and young people who are fun to work with, and we want to have the same sort of people join us," Choi says.
Employees will have to achieve the company credo of "reinventing themselves" for every new task and need to look at every assignment with fresh eyes.
Those who excel in their jobs can look forward to numerous opportunities to learn and develop through on-the-job training, job rotation, lateral moves within the office, and exchange programmes with other offices.
