The Mira's staff go the extra mile

A passion for hospitality and the willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty when serving guests are traits that The Mira Hong Kong looks for in job candidates.

Located in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui and known for its hip decor, the hotel is looking for fresh talent and experienced executives to fill openings across departments. The vacancies range from frontline roles, such as waiters, concierge staff and catering event executives, to managerial positions including sales and restaurant managers.

Katy Fok, director of human resources, says the hotel seeks employees with the right attitude.

"We don't want someone who is looking for just another job," she says. "We want people who are interested in the industry. It is only then they will enjoy what they do and perform well."

Fok adds that the hotel has put in place a three-month, comprehensive induction course for newcomers. The initiative includes a two-day orientation, on-the-job training in customer service and a buddy system that pairs new recruits with experienced staff, who will explain how things work in the hotel, to whom they can turn if they run into problems and introduce colleagues.

There is also a sharing session for new employees to provide feedback on their experience.

"We want to know what they think of the hotel thus far and the training they have received, including their views of the interview and their first day of work, and whether their needs and problems have been attended to," Fok says.

Employees at The Mira Hong Kong are adaptive to changes, she adds. "Our staff are energetic and innovative, and we are very proud of them."
