New hotel demands service with a smile

The Harbour Plaza 8 Degrees hotel in To Kwa Wan has been open for six months and is looking for people with ideas who can help take its operations to the next level.

"With a number of international hospitality groups planning to establish new hotels in Hong Kong, there is plenty of competition for the type of quality people who are crucial for success," says human resources manager Edward Chan. "We need smart employees to provide superb service because customers today always expect the best."

There are openings for a senior sales manager, senior guest services officer, income auditor, guest service, IT officers, room attendants and frontline staff for the Cafe 8 Degrees. The hotel has 702 rooms and suites, and offers comfortable accommodation for business and leisure visitors.

"The basic duty for all staff is to provide a home away from home for customers," Chan says. "They should always make it a priority to think of guests' comfort and happiness."

All new hires receive on-the-job training. Candidates must demonstrate a passion for the hospitality sector and a positive attitude. They must be able to work smartly with a smile.

"Attitude is everything," Chan says. "We prefer people who not only work hard but put extra thought into what they are doing. Applicants should be well prepared for the interview and show us they have the confidence to take on challenges."
