Sweden-based fashion retail giant Hennes and Mauritz (H&M) has been expanding in Hong Kong since it opened its first store in the city in 2007. There are seven local outlets, with plans to open at least two more this year.

The company is on the lookout for suitable candidates to fill positions that include visual merchandisers, sales advisers, store managers and floor managers.

"We focus on an individual's personality rather than their work experience as we believe knowledge and skill can be trained, but personality is set," says Louisa Chiu, area human resources manager. "We are looking for people who are open-minded, flexible and diligent, with excellent team spirit and communication skills."

Together with store management, visual merchandisers will be responsible for presenting garments in an inviting and exciting way.

Those recruited as sales advisers would be dealing with customer service and garment flow. Chiu says one of the most attractive aspects of working for H&M is the opportunity for career development.

"As long as staff perform well and show a willingness to learn, we always provide good opportunities for the right people," Chiu says.

Some employees can expect to travel overseas for training and others will have the chance to go abroad to support the development of the business in new markets.

"Some colleagues have been to Japan, Korea, Russia and Turkey to help start up new shops and they appreciate the chance to broaden their horizons," Chiu says.
