Sun Life to hire 300 consultants

Insurance firm Sun Life Hong Kong is planning to recruit 300 consultants by the end of this year to offer clients a wide range of protection, and wealth management products and services.

"Actually, we have never stopped hiring," says Roger Steel, Sun Life's CEO. "We need high-calibre talent who can help customers choose the right products to suit their protection and financial needs."

Candidates should have a bachelor's degree related to commerce or economics, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.

"Insurance is a customer-driven business," Steel says. "It is essential to have a positive attitude and a pleasant character. In addition, candidates should be able to demonstrate they have a strong drive to succeed."

An in-house learning and development centre provides mandatory training courses that cover company products, industry regulations, licensing and best sales practices.

Sun Life also offers consultants a structured career path. This includes the chance to study for an executive diploma in financial planning - a special programme developed in partnership with Chinese University. Those who complete this course are eligible to apply for the highly regarded IMBA programme offered in Hong Kong by Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. "We expect our consultants to keep pace with market trends and be familiar with various kinds of products," Steel says. "We make sure they are aware of the continuously changing financial services regulations."
