Career Advice Job Market Trend Report

Super-receptionists

With two offices opening shortly, the fast expanding Compass Serviced Offices has about 15 active openings, and will be hiring again in the near future.

Most of the positions are in client services, at the front-desk or reception. "Candidates should be customer service oriented, energetic and with a warm personality. Strong communication skills in English are a must and speaking more than one language is advantageous," says group director Lachlan Sloan.

He says the main challenge of the job is that employees are not the receptionists of one company, as it is usually the case, but of quite a few companies, which share the serviced office location (below).

Staff at Compass have to be prepared to take responsibility and get things done, while going above and beyond client expectations.

"There is no such thing as `no'. Anything is possible with time and money, so we tell customers what we can do and what we need from them to get it done," says Sloan.

While expectations are high, the company rewards performance and provides opportunities for staff to build their careers. "We like to give people opportunities which they would not have in larger companies," Sloan says.

The company often seeks new hires across sales, marketing, and IT and business support.
