Will a move to a smaller company pay off?

I have worked for over a decade as a marketer with a large established multinational, the last two in a management position. It has been a rewarding role but I have felt a bit frustrated at times by the slowness of progressing my career.

I was recently approached by a much smaller, and younger, retail company to possibly take on the role of chief marketing officer. The prospect excites me but I am also a little concerned by the relative lack of certainty and the change in culture in working for a smaller company. What do you advise?
