於多項調查中，香港人的整體英語水平於近年來都有下降的趨勢。雖然從來沒有調查針對求職者於應徵時的英語水平，但於一個那麼緊張的時刻還要使用對於應徵者們是外語的英語作答，一些平時不會犯的港式英語錯誤都會全部「衝口而出」。倘若遇上外籍主考官，緊張程度可能倍增，錯誤如發音、用詞、語法等可能令主考官對求職者的印象分大打折扣。
