The TIA is an independent statutory regulatory body established under the Travel Industry Ordinance (Cap. 634) (“Ordinance”). The TIA will be responsible for promoting the integrity, competence and professionalism of travel agents, tourist guides and tour escorts through a statutory licensing and regulatory system, and regulating shops that inbound tour groups are arranged to patronise through an administrative scheme. The TIA will also be responsible for managing the Travel Industry Compensation Fund ("TICF") which provides outbound travellers purchasing outbound packages with protection and advising the Government on matters relating to the regulation of the travel industry. Upon the full commencement of the new regulatory regime, the TIA will take up the licensing and trade regulatory roles from the Travel Agents Registry and the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong respectively.
The TIA is seeking to set up its Executive Office, which will be headed by the Executive Director, underpinned by three Directors and other staff members to support the TIA in discharging its statutory functions and daily operation.
