Career planning at five-year horizons mostly fails. The industry changes, your interests change, and the roles that exist in five years don't exist today.
What does work is planning at eighteen-month horizons, with explicit checkpoints. At each checkpoint you ask three questions: am I still learning, am I building assets that compound, and do I still like the people?
Learning is the hardest to measure. A rough proxy: can you describe one capability you're materially better at than six months ago? If not, something is off.
