Director of University Counselling

VSA is now recruiting an enthusiastic and committed person for the above position, available for an immediate start.

Duties overview:

Programme development

• Leading a collaborative, informed team of university guidance counsellors to:

  • provide high-quality, detailed, and empathetic advice to VSA students and families;

  • design and deliver university and careers guidance curriculum via lessons, workshops, and experiential learning for years 6 to 12;

  • Organize workshops on university research and preparation for key destinations, including the USA, UK, Canada, and Hong Kong;

  • ensure all counsellors are familiar with international university systems and application procedures;

  • develop collaborative working relationships with school administration, staff, and the Hong Kong school counselling community.

Relationships and networks

• Facilitating the University Counselling Team in building trustful relationships with university admission representatives;

• Developing programming to raise awareness of elite and specialist global university programmes among VSA students and families;

• Leading university guidance and careers parent programming and supporting the parent programming run within the Student Support group;

• Writing meaningful, high-standard reference letters and recommendations in a timely manner;

• Researching and adapting systems to new situations, universities and  conditions;

• Working with the Deputy Principal Student Support on initiatives for athletes, gifted and talented students, and strategic plan goals;

• Supporting students in collaboration with other members of the Student Support Group, including mentoring and exam support;

• Engaging with VSA community events and activities to support the school’s Vision and Mission.
  

Administration

• Ensuring the professional development, appropriate training, and annual appraisals of University Counselling Team members;

• Serving as SAT Test Coordinator, managing team administration for SAT (five times per year) and PSAT testing, including special testing concessions;

• Maintaining proper records of students, application and matriculation data;

• Overseeing engagement opportunities, including university visits, an annual university fair, local field trips, career exploration, and experiential learning activities;

• Organizing and leading 1–2 university campus tours for students, including one during the Lunar New Year break;

• Supporting student placements and matriculation during the Summer break as required.

• Preparing a VSA profile for distribution to the higher education community;

• Keeping current with trends in university, educational and school policies.
