Scientific Officer (Ref. 260821009-IE)

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) provide technical support to staff and students for a range of facilities in the Department, including Microelectronic Device Fabrication, Vacuum System, Physical Property Measurement System, Probing Station, Chemical/Physical Vapour Deposition Systems, etc.;

(b) provide regular training to users on the operation of the facilities; 

(c) handle matters related to the facility booking and charging systems; 

(d) coordinate the purchase and storage of chemicals; 

(e) provide support to activities involving the use of laboratories and facilities;

(f) provide support to research and teaching projects;

(g) provide support to departmental development, e.g. establishment of new laboratories, installation of new facilities, implementation of new teaching programmes, etc.; and

(h) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should: 

(a) have a recognised degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Electronics, Photonics or a related discipline;

(b) have at least five years' relevant post-qualification experience in materials science and advanced instrumentation, with demonstrated achievement in the development of research/teaching experimental setups and platforms; and

(c) be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English and Chinese. 

Preference will be given to those who have postgraduate qualification(s) and research experience, as well as proficiency in using AI and computer programming.  Solid knowledge of materials synthesis, microfabrication, optics and electronics would be a definite advantage.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
