Job Posting Details

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is seeking a high caliber executive to assist in the formulation and implementation of academic personnel matters for the University’s branch campus in Guangzhou, i.e. HKUST (GZ).

The appointee will be required to station and work in the Mainland (initially in Nansha, then on GZ campus which is planned to officially open in the fall of 2022). During the transition period, the appointee will report directly to the Head of Academic Personnel Administration of HKUST Clear Water Bay campus until the Director of Human Resources (GZ) comes onboard. The appointee will be a key member of the team responsible for the planning, coordinating, and processing of academic hiring under the 4 Hubs of the HKUST (GZ) campus. Frequent business travelling to CWB Campus has to be made as required. English is the administration language of HKUST(GZ).

Job Duties

  • ŸAssists to develop and establish academic hiring policies and procedures;
  • ŸHelps to formulate initiatives to attract, develop and retain the best academic talents, enhance diversity, and faculty members’ engagement and success;
  • ŸPlans and coordinates academic hiring matters under the 4 Hubs at HKUST (GZ);
  • ŸAssists to lead a team of professional and support staff to provide support in faculty appointments, as well as substantiation, promotion and consulting activities of faculty etc.;
  • ŸServes on relevant GZ committees for the setting up of policies, procedures and regulations for the recruitment of faculty members. 

Requirements

  • ŸA good bachelor’s degree or above with excellent language skills in English and in Chinese (Putonghua), both in writing and in speaking;
  • ŸSubstantial administrative experience in academic personnel matters, preferably with experience from tertiary education institutions in the Mainland;
  • ŸProven track record of leadership and experience in relevant policies and procedures set up;
  • ŸProficiency with the Mainland relevant legal and regulatory requirements;
  • ŸPossesses good leadership, outstanding interpersonal, engaging and influencing skills and be able to communicate effectively at all levels and across cultures; and
  • ŸDemonstrates capability of working efficiently and collaboratively in a diverse work environment is desirable.

This is a Mainland appointment and the appointee will be offered a contract by HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the local labor laws and regulations. Appointment will initially be made on a 2-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
