Job Posting Details

The Department of Mathematics is seeking a suitable appointee for the position of Assistant Manager.

The appointee is expected to provide assistance to the Director and affiliated members of the Center for Ocean Research in Hong Kong and Macau as well as the Principal Investigator of the Theme Based Research Scheme project funded by the government on ocean research, to promote the center/project developments through full-scale administration and management of all aspects of the project operations. The appointee will have the following major duties: 

  • Comprehensive management of the center/project:
    Render end-to-end administrative coordination and support to research projects; plan and monitor project deliverables; compile data for reports in accordance with the project scope and timeline; and prepare publicity materials/website to promote center/project developments;
  • Overseeing the center/project budget:
    Plan and monitor budget transaction; assist in project procurement and financial management against budgetary outline and handle the respective administration in support of the execution of center/project;
  • Planning and execution of logistical decision:
    Plan and execute logistical decision to field survey in the ocean and events organization including the promotion of the events, personnel appointment, travel arrangement and scheduling pertaining to the project initiatives; and
  • Coordination and liaison:
    Coordinate with vendors on procurement and liaise with both external and internal units for project deliverables.


Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree or higher qualification, preferably in scientific management, business administration, marketing, communication or other related disciplines with at least 3 years of post-qualification work experience. Previous work experience in large-scale research or project administration is desirable. High proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua) and good command of MS Office and spreadsheet skills are required. Knowledge in use of web will be an advantage. The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated good team player and able to work independently with service-oriented mindset and competent interpersonal and communication skills. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
