Job description
George Coffee is seeking a qualified Head Barista to join our team. This Head Barista will manage all aspects of coffee and barista staff in our shop in accordance with the vision and mission of George Coffee. The Head Barista works directly with the General Manager. Additionally, the Head Barista will be closely involved in the development and evolution of the cafe in collaboration with the owner and general manager.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and interact with customers, finding their preferences and using detailed knowledge to gently recommend coffee and other beverages they will enjoy;
  • Prepare a wide variety of coffees, teas and other drinks of the highest standard, following prescribed recipes and presentation techniques to ensure consistent quality;
  • Update and develop a new drink menu and come up with new and unique drink specials;
  • Help to develop a high performing barista/counter team, ensuring staff understand their responsibilities and providing them with supervision, training and support;
  • Maximise revenue by increasing sales, spend and conversion while minimising costs in ways that do not have negative impacts on quality or service;
  • Maintain supplies of counter and bar beverages in line with forecast demand;
  • Keep equipment working by following operating instructions, carrying out preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting breakdowns;
  • Maintain a safe, hygienic and presentable work environment, following approved operating procedures, food safety guidelines and health and safety regulations;
  • Enhance our reputation by constantly seeking opportunities to add value and improve quality by redesigning and changing processes.


  • Excellent communication and teaching skills Infectious love of coffee.

  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and staff management
  • A high degree of ethics and obsession with customer service
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to self-direct when necessary
  • Adaptability and the ability to creatively troubleshoot difficult situations
  • Superior leadership capabilities; ability to work well within groups
  • At least 3 years of experience in specialty coffee and the coffee industry
  • Focused perspective on what a high-functioning coffee bar looks like and how to execute that perspective
  • A passion for small business and quality products
  • Be a model barista, both as far as bar skills, customer service and enthusiasm to share knowledge
  • Detail-oriented
  • Previous management experience.
