The new Division of Emerging Interdisciplinary Areas (EMIA) is an academic unit to be established under the Interdisciplinary Programs Office on 1 July 2021.  EMIA envisions to foster the agile development of new education programs; contribute to identifying emerging cutting edge and niche topics, such as Artificial Intelligence, Digital Media and Creative Arts; and coordinate interdisciplinary education and research initiatives within and outside HKUST for agile development of emerging areas.  The new Division will serve as a cross-disciplinary platform facilitating scholars from different departments, campuses, and universities to incubate and drive research agenda for new and emerging interdisciplinary areas.


The appointee will provide teaching support to the new Extended Major Program and courses offered under the new Division.  Major responsibilities include:


(i)             providing teaching-related support such as timetabling, preparation and posting of course materials, grading assignments and examinations, invigilation, conducting tutorials, setting up classroom for online or mixed-mode teaching, course evaluation, etc.;

(ii)           liaising and coordinating with company sponsors on logistics of capstone projects;

(iii)          organizing seminars and enrichment activities;

(iv)          providing academic advice to students taking EMIA programs and courses;

(v)           maintaining website and promotional materials;

(vi)          assisting in new educational initiatives of EMIA; and

(vii)         performing other duties as assigned by the Head of EMIA.  


Applicants should be dynamic and energetic persons who have a recognized bachelor’s degree.  Experience in coordinating projects in collaboration with industry, NGOs and government organizations would be advantageous.  They should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; a good command of both written and spoken English; and good computer skills.  They should be mature, attentive to details and able to work independently.  Applicants with more years of relevant experience or a master’s degree may be considered for a Teaching Associate position. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)


Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
