The HKU Innovation Holdings Limited (the “Company”) was set up by the University of Hong Kong in 2020 to provide a governance oversight of a number of subsidiary companies which focus on innovation-related research and development. Applications are invited for appointment as Laboratory Safety and Facilities Manager (Ref.: IHL/2021/15), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and mutual agreement.

Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Clinical Science, or related disciplines, with at least 8 years of working experience laboratory environment; and exceptional professional communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Expertise in laboratory operations and safety is required. The appointee should be well versed with the local regulatory requirements and best technical practices.

The appointee will take charge of strategic and compliance issues related to laboratory safety of R&D centres; establish standard operation protocols and review various laboratory and research safety guidelines; conduct laboratory safety inspections and compliance audits;; participate in the laboratory safety task force and arrange regular meetings; perform risk and hazard assessments of research laboratories and evaluate control measures; respond to emergency incidents and conduct investigation; provide safety training and orientation to employees.

The appointee will also handle all facilities management matters; implement comprehensive maintenance plan; arrange regular and ad-hoc repairs; monitor E&M plant performance; participate in the testing and commissioning of building systems and the organization of all operational and maintenance manuals and the as-built documentations; support R&D Centres’ IT implementation works and system maintenance; serve as a liaison to facilitate communication between R&D centres and the holding company; and perform other duties as assigned.
