About Us
The English Schools Foundation (ESF) is the largest English-medium international school organisation in Hong Kong. Our 22 schools and comprehensive programme of extra-curricular activities bring out the best in every student through a personalised approach to learning and by inspiring curious minds.

There are over 18,000 students from 75 different nationalities in ESF kindergartens, primary, secondary and all-through schools. About 70% of our students have parents who are permanent residents of Hong Kong.

Job Description
Responsibilities

  • Maintain the strategic and day-to-day management of the library
  • In association with the teachers, to support the curriculum in order to enhance the learning experiences of the students
  • To enhance the quality of the learning experience of the students

 

Main Accountabilities

  • Promoting a love of literature among the students
  • Assisting students and teachers with research and academic assignment writing including citation and referencing support
  • Developing and managing the annual Library budget
  • Procurement for major purchases, e.g. Capital replacement, etc
  • Collaboration with other library staff including the Tai Wai Community Library
  • Ordering, classifying, cataloguing and overseeing all processes necessary to make stock shelf-ready
  • Administering & maintaining the loan system and general good order of Library; stock checks, culling, etc.
  • Maintaining up to date resources - displays, prize-winning work, new publications etc.
  • Maintaining and developing mother-tongue reading material for students
  • Maintaining resources for staff professional development
  • Managing a range of electronic resources and subscriptions
  • Supporting English teachers to deliver library-based lessons to students
  • Collaborating with Curriculum Leaders and program co-ordinators to use library resources to enhance teaching and learning
  • Collaborating with IB Co-ordinators and Programme leaders to ensure the library meets the IB Standards and Practices.
  • Organising and supporting reading competitions including Battle of the Books and Island School Book Week


Requirements

  • Minimum typical education
  • Membership of a professional Library organisation e.g. CILIP, ALIA, ALA is essential
  • A qualification in librarianship would be an advantage
  • Minimum typical experience
  • Relevant library/librarian experience preferably in a secondary school based context
