Manager (Art Gallery) (Ref. 16112505-E2) 


The appointee will be required to: 

(a)  manage and run the future PolyU Art Gallery and PolyU’s key exhibition venue located inside the Jockey Club Innovation Tower; 

(b)  develop and manage the future PolyU Cultural Trail, a project to install art pieces across PolyU campus; 

(c)  take charge of the renovation to transform the existing exhibition space to a proper art gallery with professional gallery provision; 

(d)  formulate comprehensive plans for the Gallery’s and Cultural Trail’s short-term and long-term development to further enrich the cultural ambiance on campus, broaden the PolyU community’s artistic horizons, and enhance PolyU’s standing as a vibrant hub for academic, educational and cultural exchange; 

(e)  set up the hiring policy to ensure that the Gallery is used in accordance with its development plan and PolyU’s vision to the maximum benefit of the PolyU community; 

(f)   plan, curate, and be in charge of the production and promotion of a wide range of exhibitions to a high level of standards; 

(g)  be responsible for all financial, administrative operational and marketing matters of the Art Gallery and the Cultural Trail project; 

(h)  form strong relationships with artists, art groups, partners, venue users, visitors, and other parties to ensure that customer service expectations are always met and exceeded; 

(i)   work closely with other teams of the Office, internal units of PolyU, external artists and organisations; and 

(j)   perform other duties as assigned by the Head of the Office or his/her delegates. 

He/She will be required to work on irregular hours and on Sundays/public holidays.


Applicants should have: 

(a)  a recognised degree plus at least five years of supervisory experience preferably in management of exhibition or art gallery;  

(b)  deep understanding of the local and international art scene; 

(c)  strong passion to promote art and culture on PolyU campus; 

(d)  solid knowledge of exhibition management, art handling, shipping and collections care as well as a keen eye for details; 

(e)  vast network of artists, art groups, galleries, museums, press and technicians; 

(f)   an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with proficiency in Mandarin; 

(g)   proven project management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and under pressure in a fast-pace environment; 

(h)  hands-on experience in design tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator; 

(i)   the ability and confidence to deal with a range of people as well as a flair for motivating and inspiring a team of staff; and 

(j)   the ability to represent PolyU and the Gallery with a high level of integrity and professionalism.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service 

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
