National Training Centre Head Coach/Program Manager.

HKTA is establishing a National Training Centre (NTC) that will be launched January 2019.
The NTC is an ITF initiative, and HKTA are determined to deliver best practice training through the ITF
endorsement process.

The purpose of the NTC is to provide the best junior and senior players in Hong Kong, a facility that will
deliver a full range of services, to ensure the full and future development of each player.

A Head Coach/Program Manager will be appointed to lead the team of performance coaches and sport
science specialists.

The NTC Head Coach/Program Manager will be a leader amongst coaches, a mentor to coaching staff, and
an effective and integral administrator within the HKTA management team.

They will be required to develop strong working relationships with the ITF, Hong Kong Sports Institute and
HKTA coaches and support staff.

The performance and success of the NTC Head Coach/Program Manager will be measured against a
comprehensive set of key performance indicators.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

The NTC Head Coach/Program Manager will be responsible for:

  1. Managing the HKTA NTC program.
  2. Monitoring court and facility usage, as part of the HKTC management structure.
  3. Managing all coaching and sport science staff.
  4. Providing best practice team training for Hong Kong’s leading players (junior and senior).
  5. Providing private/technical lessons to NTC players on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
  6. Establishing a collaborative approach with private coaches to enhance the technical development of NTC players.
  7. Reporting to appropriate HKTA management staff and committees.
  8. Monitoring the educational progress of NTC players.
  9. Designing and implementing a full periodised training program and tournament schedule for each NTC athlete.
  10. Assisting in the design and implementation of relevant HKTA policies.
  11. Designing and monitoring all NTC player contracts.
  12. Establishing and maintaining close relationship with all key stakeholders, especially parents.
  13. Representing the HKTA and its player’s interests, to the media and general public in a positive light.
  14. Maintaining high standards of discipline and work ethic to ensure the success and the professional image of the HKTA.
  15. Being a role model by leading by example.
  16. Ensuring that standards are maintained at all levels.
  17. Continually updating of knowledge on world’s best practices, to ensure quality information is available to players.
  18. Regular appraisal and self-analysis, through personal and professional development.
  19. Abiding by the HKTA Coach’s Code of Conduct.
  20. Any other duties deemed relevant and appropriate, by the HKTA Director of Player Development

Qualifications, skills and experience:

The successful NTC Head Coach/Program Manager applicant, must provide evidence of:

  1. Recognised High Performance tennis coaching qualifications, in line with the ITF syllabi.
  2. Tertiary qualifications in sport science, sport management, or similar.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of, and commitment to, the game of tennis.
  4. A full understanding of international standards in both senior and junior tennis.
  5. Knowledge and understanding of the needs of high performance players; junior, senior, male and female.
  6. International success when coaching high performance tennis players.
  7. Experience in leading an academy or coaching team.
  8. An ability to work effectively in a team.
  9. Experience in designing annual periodised programs and international tournament schedules, for junior and senior players.
  10. Experience in the use of digital software, used in technical and tactical analysis and correction.
  11. Experience in monitoring tennis-specific Strength and Conditioning programs as well as the use of medical screenings and player rehabilitation programs.
  12. Working with educational institutions so as to monitor educational outcomes, and academic success/achievements of players.
  13. Conducting professional development workshops for high performance tennis coaches.
  14. Working for a national tennis association/federation.
  15. Knowledge and understanding of how to engage and communicate with, and motivate tennis playersof all ages.
  16. Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety, and Child Protection as it relates to working in a high performance tennis environment.
  17. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and by telephone.
