The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to develop into a world-class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high-level talents with global perspective, Chinese tradition, and social responsibility.

At present, the University has programmers in science, engineering, economic management, and humanities and social science. Its long-term goal is to have 11,000 domestic and international students, 7,500 of whom will be undergraduate students and 3,500 Masters or PhD students.

The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) HSS has two missions. First, HSS provides university core curriculum for all students, including general education, English language competency, Chinese cultural heritage and language competency, physical education, basic competency in information technology (IT) applications.

Beyond the university core curriculum, HSS intends to develop to become a school of excellence in humanities and social sciences, and to provide high-quality programmes in multiple areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, including, but not limited to, translation & interpreting studies, simultaneous interpreting, applied psychology, international affairs & international relations (global studies), internet and new media, advanced English communication, urban studies, educational studies, sociological studies. Positions and Qualifications

The School of Humanities and Social Science at CUHK(SZ) invites application for faculty position in psychology (specialization areas in psychology are flexible), at the rank of full professor/associate professor level with prospect for tenure, although junior candidate with very competitive academic records may be considered for position of assistant professor. Candidates should have (i) a PhD degree (by the time of reporting duty) in a relevant area of psychology; and (ii) evidence of high potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship.

Candidate for associate and full professor position is expected to have solid evidence of excellence in teaching/research/service, and a strong track record of sustained high-quality research/scholarship outcomes in the expertise area(s), as evidenced by research publications in competitive international outlets (e.g., SSCI- or SCI-indexed journals) in the relevant areas of psychology. In addition, candidate need to demonstrate academic leadership and strong commitment to the highest standard of excellence. Applicant is advised to provide quality indicators for the journals where he/she have research publications (e.g., journal impact factor, journal ranking in a relevant category, as available in the Journal Citations Reports of the Web of Science).

Successful applicant is expected to be able to teach a range of courses in core areas of psychology. Experience in supervising postgraduate students will be favorably considered.

Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, leading to longer-term appointment or tenure later, subject to successful performance evaluation and mutual agreement. In cases where a candidate has an established record of excellence and demonstrable potential for continued success, tenure may be offered to the candidate at the time of initial appointment.

The appointee is expected to commence work in the academic year 2018-19.

Salary and Fringe Benefits 

Salary will be internationally competitive, commensurate with experience and academic accomplishments. Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK(SZ) and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable to the PRC.
