Programmer (Systems and Digital Services) (Ref. 19062007-E7)
[to be appointed at the substantive post of Assistant Technical Officer]


Reporting to Senior Assistant Librarian (Systems and Digital Services), the appointee will work with a team of Library staff members to develop, implement and support the Library’s information systems and digital service initiatives. He/She will be required to:

(a) provide ongoing support for existing web applications;

(b) perform programming and contribute substantively in developing web applications;

(c) assist in evaluating, installing and troubleshooting new software;

(d) provide technical support to users and staff at the Library’s Technical Help Desk;

(e) prepare data analysis and statistical reports;

(f) perform shift duties; and

(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or her delegates.


Applicants should have:

(a) a recognised degree or a higher diploma in Computer Science, Information System or a related field;

(b) relevant working experience in programming and web application development;

(c) good knowledge of programming languages and web application technologies, such as PHP, Java, Ruby, CSS, Javascript, HTML/XML/XSLT, etc.;

(d) good interpersonal and customer service skills; and

(e) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
