Founded by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE) oversees the operations of the Hong Kong Community College which offers quality sub-degree programmes for secondary school leavers and the School of Professional Education and Executive Development which offers professionally oriented academic award programmes for persons at various stages of their career, including top-up degree awards for associate degree and higher diploma graduates. There are four Academic Divisions in CPCE, namely Division of Business and Hospitality Management, Division of Languages and Communication, Division of Science, Engineering and Health Studies and Division of Social Sciences, Humanities and Design.

Research Assistant (Ref. 211022-05)
[Appointment period: four months]


The appointee will assist the Principal Investigator in the RGC funded project - “The Interrogative Systems in Tibeto-Burman Languages of the Cool Mountain Area”.

He/She will (a) conduct the literature review, primary and/or secondary data collection and analysis of the following 11 Tibeto-Burman languages in the Cool Mountain Area in Sichuan and Yunnan: Niesu (or Adur in Liangshan), Lisu in Sichuan, Ersu, Tosu (or Duoxu), Lizu, Pumi in Sichuan and Yunnan, Khams Tibetan (or Kami Tibetan) in Muli Liangshan, Yongning Na (or Mosuo), Namuyi (or Namuzi), Shixing (or Xumi), and Laze (or Shuitianhua); (b) prepare questionnaires for fieldwork; (c) coordinate with consultants for fieldwork, and (d) perform any other duties as assigned.


Applicants should have (a) an honours degree or an equivalent qualification, preferably in Core Linguistics or related disciplines; (b) good knowledge of IPA, Tibeto-Burman linguistics or linguistic typology; (c) high proficiency in English and Chinese, and (d) be self-motivated, responsible, and able to work independently.

Preference will be given to native speakers of one of the above-mentioned 11 Tibeto-Burman languages.


Salary offered will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
