Research Associate 


The position will be members of the R&D staff working on projects under the direction of R&D scientists to achieve tangible product development objectives. The position will have the opportunity to tackle a number of different projects with the potential for increased responsibilities, based on performance. The successful candidate will be expected to in a rapidly evolving and demanding start-up environment. We are interested in someone with specific experience working with next generation sequencing (NGS) equipment and processes.



  • Working as a member of the R&D team to execute experiments for product development and optimization;
  • Contribute to experimental design and tactical direction of studies;
  • Perform relevant literature searches to elucidate and generate novel ideas;
  • Report and communicate all results and progress to supervisor and management on a regular basis;
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment;
  • Prepare laboratory and test materials (e.g., buffers, product components, intermediates);
  • Maintain Laboratory documentation and operations (e.g., inventory, record keeping, basic maintenance).


Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university;
  • Experience with NGS is required;
  • Previous laboratory experience (minimum 2 years) either in an academic life science or at a biotechnology company;
  • Fast learner who can follow instructions closely and perform complex protocols with high attention to detail;
  • Self-motivated with capability to take initiative;
  • Team-oriented and places high value on developing a strong team culture;
  • Effectively communicates scientific ideas and results;
  • Ability to grow from constructive feedback and mentorship.

Senior Research Associate 


The position will be responsible for project planning, providing progress updates, and designing and performing experiments. We are a high energy biotech company that is driven by technological innovation, and therefore requires an R&D team that can manage a fast-paced environment, rapidly evolving project goals, and hitting critical deadlines. This position will be expected to handle working on multiple projects at a time, in both supportive and lead roles. Initially, the main efforts will be to develop our molecular sample preparation kits, as well as work on innovative research projects that investigate new uses for our technology. The position is expected to be able to work independently and to provide guidance to the junior research staff. We are interested in someone with specific experience working with next generation sequencing (NGS) equipment and processes.



  • Independently design protocols and perform experiments to achieve desired project objectives;
  • Spend between 30-50% of working time at the lab bench performing experiments and generating data;
  • Become familiar with new experimental techniques and equipment. Develop sufficient knowledge to independently troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and experimental processes, and to provide corrective action recommendations;
  • Analyze raw data from experiments, generate figures, and derive meaningful conclusions based on the results;
  • Put together concise presentation slides on a regular basis to update the project managers and team members on project progress;
  • Clearly and succinctly present results and findings at group meetings;
  • Write reports to summarize and document the progress and outcomes of research projects;
  • Read scientific literature to support fundamental understanding of technology and research projects;
  • Work closely with chemistry and molecular biology groups to develop our molecular sample preparation kits and improve the resulting DNA sequencing performance;
  • Contribute to project planning, generating timelines, and objective formation;
  • Assume responsibility for timely completion of projects, ensuring activities are consistent with project critical path, and responding appropriately to changing priorities. Ensure technical activities under delegated supervision are conducted within internal and external guidelines and regulations;
  • Develop, track, and manage detailed development program timelines, deliverables, and milestone progress;
  • Work on multiple projects at a time, in either a supportive or lead role;
  • Assist with general lab and equipment maintenance, and R&D material purchasing;
  • Provide technical advice, guidance, and training to junior scientific staff, and serve as a role model.


Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry or related fields;
  • Experience working with NGS is required;
  • Advanced understanding of scientific processes and analysis of empirical data. Demonstrated ability to design and execute experimental protocols;
  • Experience working with qPCR and NGS is a strong plus;
  • Ability to work well in teams and across disciplines with complex systems;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • High internal standard for quality of research;
  • The candidate should be passionate and self-motivated with a strong desire to acquire on-the-job training.
