Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society.

The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the Government in combatting illegal gambling. In 2019/20, the Club made a record return to the Government of HK$19.9 billion in duty and profits tax and contributed HK$0.8 billion to the Lotteries Fund. Approved charity and community donations were HK$4.5 billion.

The Club is Hong Kong's largest single taxpayer and one of the city’s major employers. Its Charities Trust is also one of the world's top ten charity donors. The Club is always "riding high together for a better future" with the people of Hong Kong.

Riding Instructor – Beas River Equestrian Centre
 

The Department

Our Equestrian Affairs Department aims to fulfil the Club’s vision to promote riding as a sport and raise participation at all levels, from beginner through to elite. It oversees the management of four equestrian centres, including the Member’s facility at the Beas River Country Club and three public riding schools at Tuen Mun, Pok Fu Lam and Lei Yue Mun. The Beas River Equestrian Centre (BREC), being the largest in Hong Kong, houses over 250 horses and provides world class facilities including a riding school, livery yard, competition centre, rehabilitation and retraining unit, as well as a spelling unit for Hong Kong’s racehorses.

The Job
You will:

  • deliver high quality lessons and equestrian activities to riders
  • school horses regularly to maintain good behaviour and well-being of horses
  • enhance riding establishment safety standards
  • support Veterinarian and Head Farrier in day-to-day operations to ensure the best welfare and well-being of horses
  • upgrade staff competency and qualifications in riding and stable management 
  • liaise with internal departments, government and private sectors upon request of Chief Riding Instructor or Head of School Line
  • align with Chief Riding Instructor to manage day-to-day operations
  • complete instructors administration tasks
  • undertake any other duties as assigned by the Chief Riding Instructor, Head of School Line or their delegates

About You
You should have:

  • hold a minimum of BHS Intermediate Instructor certificate or equivalent with at least nine years’ relevant experience
  • be an experienced equestrian professional with high standards of horse care
  • be personable, enthusiastic and positive to deliver high quality customer service
  • have the passion for horses and horse riding and teaching all levels from beginners to competition riders
  • preferably be a fluent speaker of English; good communication of Cantonese will be an advantage
  • be a holder of first aid certificate

Terms of employment

The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Contract employment will be offered to the successful candidate. Contract renewal will be subject to mutual agreement between the Club and the individual.
