The appointee will (a) be deployed to the InnoCentres (ICs) established in the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP), and provide advice for laboratory safety issues; (b) implement CUHK’s Safety Policy and Laboratory / Research Safety guidelines in the ICs; (c) take charge of the strategic and compliance issues in relation to the storage, transportation and use of dangerous goods or other hazardous chemicals in the laboratories; (d) review laboratory procedures, assess health and safety risks, and evaluate control measures for the anticipated hazards; (e) conduct laboratory safety audits and induction training, and organise trainings/seminars to enhance laboratory safety awareness; (f) review and prepare laboratory safety guidelines in relation to the health and safety risks identified; (g) attend and investigate any laboratory accidents, and prepare investigation reports; and (h) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of University Safety of CUHK.
Applicants should have/be (i) a Bachelor’s degree or above, in Science, Engineering, Health and Safety, or other related disciplines; (ii) at least 3 years’ relevant work experience in occupational and health safety in academic institutions, scientific research laboratories and/or industrial undertakings, preferably in a supervisory capacity; (iii) conversant in local regulations on health and safety, and control of hazardous substances, such as dangerous goods, radioactive substances, biological and clinical agents, etc.; (iv) excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and (v) proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua). Knowledge of website maintenance, database management system and application, and possession of certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist or membership in relevant professional bodies are preferred.
Appointment will initially be made on a 2-year contract with contract-end gratuity, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
