Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society.

The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the Government in combatting illegal gambling. Senior Data Scientist

The Department

The Customer and International Business Development Division (C&I) is responsible for providing quality wagering experience to local and overseas customers of The Hong Kong Jockey Club. It operates 88 Race Meetings a year, 33 Simulcasts days, a thrice-weekly Mark 6 Draw, 7X24 Digital Channels, 7X24 Football Betting Services on over 11,000 different leagues per year. The ultimate aim is to provide an impressive total customer experience leading to sustainable turnover growth in a responsible manner.

The Customer Digital Experience Department is responsible for leading and managing development projects of digital wagering experience and customer service digital transformation. Besides project management, its scope includes content requirement definition, user-interface and user experience design, as well as the look and feel based on customer insights and product requirements.

The Job
You will:

  • Apply artificial intelligence (AI) technology, particularly deep learning based recommendation engine and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to various aspects of customer wagering journey, where applicable
  • Write Codes in various languages (C++, Scala, Java, R) with proficiency in Python to deliver proofs of concept to validate AI solutions are workable
  • Design and build AI models with vendors and external help as needed
  • Assist manager and project teams to deliver user centred digital application projects across the Club’s range of digital channels, including mobile app, website, ecommerce and cross-media platforms
  • Provide requirement to IT to interpretable any AI model to the Club’s environment for production
  • Support R&D stage and assist manager to conduct research on cutting-edge technologies of deep learning, and develop algorithms/models to solve business problems
  • Undertake other duties as assigned by Line Manager

About You
You should have:

  • Master degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or Statistics or related degree
  • At least 3 years of experience in big-data unsupervised learning/clustering, applied machine learning with regression, classification, transformers, models for supervised learning, etc.
  • Strong in deep learning based recommendation engine and natural language understanding
  • Programming skills in various languages (C++, Scala, Java, R) with proficiency in Python
  • Proven skills in Machine Learning and Deep Learning, e.g. linear/logistics regression discriminant analysis, transformers, autoencoders, collaborative filtering, matrix factorization, Restricted Boltzmann Machine, etc.
  • Strong skills in the use of current state of the art machine learning and deep learning tools such as TensorFlow, Pytorch, Spark, CNTK, etc.
  • Experience with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop
  • Strong analytical, logical, problem solving skills and business acumens
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese
  • Excellent working attitude, self-motivated and team player
  • Less experience will be considered as “Data Scientists”

Terms of employment
The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualification and experience. A contract employment will be offered to the successful candidate. Contract renewal will be subject to mutual agreement between the Club and the individual.
