The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to develop into a world-class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high-level talents with global perspective, Chinese tradition, and social responsibility.

At present, the University has programmers in science, engineering, economic management, and humanities and social science. Its long-term goal is to have 11,000 domestic and international students, 7,500 of whom will be undergraduate students and 3,500 Masters or PhD students.

The University has an international learning environment, a bilingual teaching pedagogy with English being the primary medium of instruction, a collegiate system, general education curriculum, multidisciplinary programmes, and a student-centered educational philosophy.

The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) HSS has two missions. First, HSS provides university core curriculum for all students, including general education, English language competency, Chinese cultural heritage and language competency, physical education, basic competency in information technology (IT) applications.

Beyond the university core curriculum, HSS intends to develop to become a school of excellence in humanities and social sciences, and to provide high-quality programmes in multiple areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, including, but not limited to, translation & interpreting studies, simultaneous interpreting, applied psychology, international affairs & international relations (global studies), internet and new media, advanced English communication, urban studies, educational studies, sociological studies. Post Specification

Applicant should have (i) a Ph.D. degree in humanities or social science (including but not limited to anthropology, history, philosophy, and sociology); (ii) interest and preferably experience in teaching the humanities or social science at tertiary level; (iii) proficiency in Chinese and/or English; and (iv) the ability to handle classic texts in the humanities. A proven record of teaching excellence and experience in leading small group seminars would be an advantage.

The appointee will be responsible for (a) teaching courses related to his/her field of study; (b) designing e-learning materials; and (c) assisting in curriculum development and administrative assignments.

The appointee is expected to commence work in the academic year 2018-19.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

Salary will be competitive, commensurate with experience and academic accomplishments. Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK, Shenzhen and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable to the PRC. The appointee will be based in Shenzhen, China.
