The Nesbitt Centre provides an English educational programme aiming to maximise potential in adults with learning disabilities. We are looking to recruit a Special Needs Facilitator to join our team in the delivery of our programme to a diverse range of adult learners with development disabilities.

As a Special Needs Facilitator you will work with adults who need extra support, or require an advanced programme of learning in order to reach their full potential.

A key aspect of working in this field is identifying individual needs and being responsible for creating a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Head of Special Needs to define appropriate activities for the learners in relation to the programme
  • Prepare lessons and resources to deliver our Preparation for Life Programme to individuals or small groups of learners within or outside the centre’s facilities
  • Develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of learners e.g. using special equipment and facilities, such as audio visual materials and computers to stimulate interest in learning
  • Liaise with other professionals at the Centre, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and clinical psychologists
  • Work closely with parents and guardians
  • Organise learning outside the centre in activities such as community visits, outings or sporting events
  • Carry out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of learners’ progress
  • Managing behaviour.

 

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor degree or above in psychology or similar
  • Experience in working with adults with special needs would be an advantage
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Knowledge, expertise and awareness of learners’ social, emotional and learning needs
  • Ability to support learners in various environments
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress and in difficult situations
  • Excellent ICT skills
