Vice President, Operational Risk Management, Firm-Wide - WD12575

Business Function
Risk Management Group (RMG) is responsible for the development and maintenance of risk management and internal control frameworks. We provide independent review and challenge to business to ensure that appropriate balance is considered in risk/return decisions. In addition, RMG is responsible for the monitoring and reporting on key risk issues of the Bank. To manage risk effectively and deliver strong financial performance, we invest significantly in our people and infrastructure.

• Establish and maintain an Operational Risk Management (ORM) framework within the business/support units that enable identification, assessment, mitigation, measurement, monitoring and reporting of key operational risks
• Monitor the effectiveness of ORM at the business/support units
• Assist management in the assessment of key operational risk issues and profile of the business/support units
• Report and escalate operational risks to the relevant senior management-level committees with recommendations on appropriate risk mitigation strategies. Escalate on timely basis significant risk issues to business management and manager for taking appropriate remedial actions
• Responsible for initiate, adopt and use of dashboard, data analytics and machine learning technologies
• Partner with relevant Risk Controllers, BU/SUs stakeholders to formulate new risk monitoring and management related data initiatives
• Provide operational risk assessment on new products and outsourcing activities, including emerging risks arising from latest industry and market development, and digitisation initiative, and keep the manager updated prior to sign off
• Conduct cross units/teams analytics in identifying systemic trends and/or issues
• To establish and institutionalise automated operational risk dashboards
• Ensure timely completion of RCSAs including appropriate action plans to address identified control gaps
• Ensure issues/action plans arising from Risk & Control Self-Assessments, risk events, KRIs, regulatory inspections or other risk issues are properly followed up
• Track new risk events, extended / overdue action plans and risk acceptances to ensure appropriate justifications and approvals are obtained
• To perform risk monitoring of related business activities and compiling analyses of operational risk data and preparing the necessary reports to management
• To drive the escalation of significant issues at the Hong Kong Operational Risk Committee and the Risk Executive Committee
• Drive or participate in digitisation projects and collaborate with BU/SUs for continuous process enhancements

• University graduate in Finance, Risk Management, Information Technology or other related disciplines
• At least 10 years relevant experience with solid exposure on at least one banking segment (e.g. Consumer Banking, Institutional Banking, Treasury & Markets, Securities) with a fair amount of related product knowledge
• Sound knowledge in regulatory/ statutory requirement
• Strong analytical power with good knowledge in banking operations and/or internal control systems
• Knowledge on QlikView, Power BI, PL/SQL, and office suite (especially excel and PowerPoint) is highly preferred
• Previous experience working in the consulting industry would be highly regarded
