Associate Professor in Fashion and Textile Technology (Ref. 260921002)

The School of Fashion and Textiles (SFT) was established in 2022 as an independent school, extending the lineage from the Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC) with 65 years of history at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. SFT carries and leverages its proud history of research and curricular excellence, innovation and creativity, and entrepreneurship to be the top fashion school for nurturing and cultivating global fashion leaders for the future. 

With rapid technological advancement, fashion is ever-expanding, with so many permutation and integration possibilities encompassing different aspects of society and humanities to contribute to knowledge advancement, reimagining the future, and betterment of society.  SFT is seeking internationally excellent candidates to meet the growing demand and explore creative possibilities.

Duties 

The appointee will be required to: 

(a) teach, supervise research students, and contribute to curriculum development at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; 

(b) initiate, lead and participate in research, consultancy and other scholarly activities leading to publications in refereed journals, exhibitions and the securing of research grants; 

(c) undertake academic, departmental and institutional administrative duties; and 

(d) perform any other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School or her delegates. 

Qualifications 

Applicants should have: 

(a) a PhD in Fashion or Textile Technology or a closely related discipline with substantial relevant post-qualification experience; 

(b) demonstrated expertise in university teaching and research in areas related to fashion and textile technology; 

(c) an excellent research and publication record in high impact scholarly journals, along with a proven track record (or demonstrated potential) in securing research grants and externally funded projects; 

(d) a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research and professional/community service; and 

(e) excellent communication skills, with the ability to use English as the medium of instruction. 

Preference will be given to candidates with a strong research orientation and a proven teaching track record.
